Wade Stevenson was an aggressive and adventurous young man. He did not let anything stop him on his quest to explore the world and all it had to offer. His own father could not diminish his spirits or his desires, even when he accused him of being “a loser.” Wade knew that one day he would achieve his goal and with that in mind, his journey began.

He was a lover of women and as such had a few close calls that almost led to sex, but it wasn’t in the cards back then. Once he had a crush on his college German teacher and when she didn’t acknowledge his eye contact, he walked out and quit school. Coming back home and again being subjected to his fathers ridicule. He wanted out, he wanted out so bad he would do anything to do it. Dreaming of the day he would get on a boat and head to France to fulfill his life-long dream. Dave and his family have experienced some of the most amazing ongoing communication from their son that Paul has ever run into. Dave talks about it in his book “41 Signs of Hope.”

In the second half of the hour, “Donna from Connecticut” will update Paul and Ben on the amazing happenings at her 1783 New England farmhouse, where the last 220 years of her family members appear to be living together, with some fascinating results. The Indie Book Awards has named WWII veteran and author Leon Cooper’s work, The War in Pacific: A Retrospective, as a Finalist in the History/Historical Non-Fiction category of the 2008 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

As anyone who’s read this blog over the years knows, I’m a fanatic for the frontier west. I love reading books on western history (there are several reviewed on this blog) as well as writing about the artists who captured the frontier before the major influx of Europeans to America.

Among my favorite artists are George Catlin, Karl Bodmer, Albert Bierstadt, and Frederic Remington. While Bodmer and Catlin captured the frontier of the early 19th century, later artists like Bierstadt and Remington painted (and sculpted) the iconic west of cowboys, Indians, and the grand western landscape.

Once in awhile, I’m lucky enough to run across museums that focus on western art and American Indian art. One is the museum in Roswell, New Mexico (surprised?); the other is the Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas. As the author of four books and hundreds of magazine and Web-based articles, I’ve always enjoyed the opportunity to write reviews about news, products, and opportunities outside my normal area of expertise. For example, I typically write about history, genealogy, books, music, and technology - - but with a wonderful service called PayPerPost blog network, I now have the chance to broaden my professional experience.
