Hockey for the Clueless (or What to Expect When Attending Your First Hockey Game)

Guest Post by Kerri Nelson

1.  Originally created as the Native American version of lacrosse, this sport was first formally played in 1855 Canada.  Today, hockey is a fast paced, exciting sport on ice—enjoyed by millions.

2.  Add 1 big center, two mighty wings, two big defensemen, and one solid goalie.  Teeth not required.

3.  Gather in a regulation size ice rink, with 2 goals and 1 puck.  Screaming & bickering fans included at no extra cost.

4.  Watch as huge men in thick, padded uniforms scramble to push 1 tiny object down the ice and into a net.  Violence may ensue.

5.  Caution:  meddling men in black and white striped shirts may send players to their room (a/k/a  “the penalty box”) for misbehavior.

6.  Such penalty inducing infractions may include bad behaviors known as icing, high sticking, cross checking, holding the stick, hooking, roughing, and slashing.  Not to be confused with slang terms for “gang violence.”

7.  If the men are really, really bad they can be punished for spearing, fighting, butt-ending, charging, and boarding.  Please note:  expect the worst behavior for the best game experience and fighting is often preceded by the tossing down of gloves.

8.  Be prepared for a shoot out to occur if multiple infractions are assessed.  No bulletproof vests are necessary.

9.  Enjoy the loud music, obscenity yelling fans, general mayhem and competitiveness, and men who know how to handle their sticks.

10.  Be on the lookout for the ultimate goal—a large cup known as Stanley.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this hockey tutorial.  We do warn that hockey may become highly addictive and should be viewed with caution.  If you attend repeated games, you’ll be forced to wear team colors, purchase high priced team souvenirs and follow the team’s progress throughout the season.

Consider yourself warned.

This totally gets me right back into the spirit of the Winter Olympics! :-) Time to write another hockey romance, Kerri? Yeah, I think so.

Just wait, tomorrow, I'll visit again and say the same thing. :-)

Sarah~~It is always fun to learn about something new. Learning about hot hockey players = research I can get on board with. Ya know? Thanks for your support!

Becca~~Wondering if I should do a sequel to this book featuring Danny's best friend. What do you think? Huggers, K.

It’s a film called Hungry for You and it’s in pre-production now. I play the lead vampire. I didn’t want to be a vampire but was forced into it so I’m struggling with my vampire powers and not wanting to turn the girl I love into a vampire. The script is really great and has a wonderful storyline. It’s been fun. The creator, Linda Andersson, has a really cool comic strip of Hungry for You that she is going to release soon. It’s sort of a teaser and a way to start the marketing for the project in a bigger level.
