The Myth America Pageant by Robert V. Wickes
Ordinary Joes don’t need another dreary book on government or, far worse, more biased partisan ranting. So in The Myth America Pageant, Rob explores a brand new perspective on politics and takes an often-amusing look at often-confusing issues. The result is a friendly conversation with the readers, easy to read and simple to comprehend.
Here’s his recipe:
Take the lessons of history
Blend in ample common sense
Sprinkle liberally with controversial speculation
Turn up the heat until you’ve cooked the goose of all manner of ambitious politicians.
The result is a thought-provoking, passion-evoking analysis of today’s problems along with some radical, but rational ideas for tomorrow.
Serves: Everyone (politicians not included).
Comprehensive and comprehensible, The Myth America Pageant is a great read for Ordinary Joes of any political party. Voters need to know the real answers to the critical political and social issues of today, but they’ll never get them from their elected leaders, pundits, partisan activists, or entrenched scholars. The Myth America Pageant answers questions like:
- What causes all wars and human conflict?
- What is “Big Government?”
- Why is 1996 more important than 1776?
- What is the fatal flaw of democracy?
- Are public servants really servants?
- Does money influence politics, or does politics influence money?
- What causes the stock market to crash?
- How could we create 35 million new jobs?
- Why is healthcare so expensive?
- Is Social Security worth saving?
- Why are election campaigns so nasty?
- Why has our military been sent to 120 countries in the last 115 years?
- What do debates over guns, abortion, the environment, the Boy Scouts, marriage, welfare, and religion all have in common — and why should anyone give a rip?
The Myth America Pageant, is written by an Ordinary Joe for other Ordinary Joes—a unique analysis of government and politics, with a decidedly outside-the-Beltway insight and directness that cannot be found even in a “no spin zone.”
About the Author
Rob Wickes, author of The Myth America Pageant, is an Ordinary Joe. He lives in Small Town, USA. His office is, literally, on Main Street. He knows what it is like to make payroll, pay suppliers, and deal with rising costs, contracts, multitudes of taxes, and mountains of regulations. He’s just another baby boomer who grew up in a decent, healthy environment, and was given a good set of values with which to face life’s problems and challenges. His chances and opportunities were only ordinary. Not rich. Not poor. Just in the Goldilocks middle. Nothing special. No special talents. No special advantages. No special breaks. Just the common sense guy next door. Just an ordinary guy.
