The Journey, by Susan Kaye Behm, is a novel that will help readers understand abuse victims and give a new resolve to help those who have suffered abuse. If you have not been abused, you owe it to take yourself out of your sheltered life, and experience the terror that over 1.5 million children in the United States go through each year.
If you have been abused, you must read this book—there is inspiration, hope, determination, and proof that you, too, can not only survive but become a victor!
It is amazing how much better you will understand the victims. If you know someone who has been abused, don’t avoid them—get to know them and love them. Take a chance to get to know Susan Kaye Behm, through her character Joey Benson, and you’ll find that she can make an impact on your life that you’ll never forget.
“This is a powerful story of a ritual abuse survivor’s struggle
To be heard, believed, and accepted.
To learn what is normal and deal with questions of what is real.
To accept that she was not permanently damaged and not permanently separated into an alien world, a life apart, on the outside looking in.
This tells of a courageous journey.
From hiding her true self to being known.
From wanting to die to choosing life.
From being shaped by the past to living in the now.
From being disillusioned and disappointed to learning to trust God and people.
This story can impact those who have experienced abusive treatment and those who want to help.”

About the Author
Susan K. Behm, author of Civilized Savages and Secrets in Paradise and most recently, The Journey, is the outspoken voice for those who are unable to speak for themselves. As an abuse survivor, she understands better than the average
individual the importance of raising awareness of the effects of abuse on an individual. She bravely speaks out against the most extreme forms of child labor and ritual abuse. In her novels, she illustrates that abuse of every type is going on not only around the world, but in our own country as well. No child is safe while this threat exists.
Susan graduated college with a Bachelor’s of Science in Secondary Education, but is currently working as an Information Technology professional. When she’s not writing, she spends her time caring for two exuberant black labs, Cal and Sammy. In addition, she interprets for the hearing-impaired, teaches sign language, volunteers at her church, runs her own computer business, and is an avid teddy bear collector.
After Susan’s first book, Civilized Savages, she began speaking to survivors of abuse and sharing her own experiences with them to encourage and support them on their healing journey. She also speaks to those who work with survivors or are a part of a survivor’s support network to help them better understand the emotional pain that the person must deal with continually.
Susan is available for public speaking engagements, book signings, and interviews.
Her sincere wish is to be the voice for those survivors who have not yet found their voice. She brings inspiration, hope, and strength to those she comes in contact with.
