Review:
“Lucich takes a subject that might well be overwhelming for the average, everyday reader, and makes it understandable and accessible…His writing style is clear and comforting, but also very precise and to the point. Almost anyone should be able to follow his crystal-clear instructions, even those with no prior computer/digital training.” Continue reading »

The Remembering: A Novel of Karma and Global Peril“The Remembering” is an incredible spiritual thriller that follows the soul of Shyloh through six incarnations. Shyloh’s first life begins in the year 40,000 B.C.E. as a male. In this form, he is a healer that has to deal with issues of choosing what is right. He makes choices that follow him into his next life that takes place in Dephi Greece in 336 B.C.E. In this form, Shyloh is a female from a sheep herding family. The Greek god Hermes appears to her in a vision. She follows him to Delphi. Shyloh becomes a Pythian healer priestess. She encounters incarnations of people from her former life including her father, mother, brother, grandmother and lover. While these people are in different forms their roles are similar.

The next incarnation takes place in Venice, Italy in 1596 A.D. Shyloh is a male medical student who gets wrapped up in trying to help people that have been targeted by the Inquisitor of the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition of Venice. Again Shyloh keeps encountering the incarnations of his former lives. The next lifetime for Shyloh is in San Francisco in 1967. Here she is a psychiatric resident. She begins experimenting with hallucinogenic drugs. She unites with the other souls of whom she has been sharing her life. As scientists, together they create perfect child named, Kalki. Shyloh passes on into her next incarnation as a male doctor in Bali in the year 2106. Kalki is still alive and is able to help Shyloh remember his purpose and what he needs to accomplish. The human race is rapidly dying off as a result of environmental catastrophes and disease. Shyloh’s final life is in Shambhala, Tibet 2607. In this incarnation, Shyloh is living in a hidden peaceful valley as a woman that is second in command to a female Dalai Lama. Shyloh also continues to be a healer. Her struggles involve the Yeti in this story. The Yeti leader is an incarnation that Shyloh has had to deal with since her first incarnation.

Me and My Father\'s Shadow: A Daughter\'s Quest and Biography of Ted Lewis \Ted Lewis, a clarinetist and showman with a decades-long career, was one of the first Northern bandleaders to try to master jazz. He also secretly fathered an out-of-wedlock daughter. Dawn Williams, the daughter in question, has attempted to combine her own biography with that of her father in her slightly uneven but ultimately rewarding book, “Me and My Father’s Shadow.”

Conceived during a one-night stand and brought up by a single mother, Williams had a childhood fascination with Ted Lewis, and often put on her own shows where she would imitate Lewis’ famed “Me and My Shadow” routine. She wasn’t told the details of her paternity until she was an adult and it was then that she developed an urge to learn more about her father and write his biography.

The Eagle\'s Last FlightSkip O’Neill lies dying of leukemia in a New York hospital, determined to live until the new millennium. His wasted body shows scant evidence of the man he once was—an Air Force fighter pilot and decorated combat veteran.

O’Neill’s first assignment as a young lieutenant places him among hard drinking World War II—and Korean War—era fighter pilots who quickly teach him their ways. He almost washes out of pilot training but is persistent and manages to graduate. In Vietnam, he proves to be a skillful and courageous pilot who faces dangers of all kinds with equanimity. But the greatest—and most deadly danger—materializes years after O’Neill volunteers to be an observer at an atomic test site.

In the end, O’Neill decides that when his time comes, he will dash at it fearlessly. He anticipates being greeted by departed friends—but what awaits him is something totally unexpected.

Nip, Tuck, Dead: A Pauline Sokol MysteryThat’s the name of the book I agreed to review. A very pleasant marketing person named Nancy offered me a free book (read: crack) and the opportunity to review the thing here. How could I say no? I like to read, free books are best, and I like to hear myself type. It was the trifecta of goodness.

When I first got the email from Very Pleasant Nancy, I wasn’t sure what to expect. See, I’m a mystery novel snob of the worst sort. I prefer the younger Peter Wimsey to the older one, I like the early Sherlock Holmes much, *much* better than the later stories (especially that horrible one that was supposedly written by Holmes himself), and parts of Laurie King’s Holmesiana books make me howl with rage.

Here was a popular mystery novel written for a general audience, that contained no verbose descriptions of London streets at the turn of the century or bizarre Latin quotes. What would I do?

Well, honestly, I hurled the book across the room the first time I read it. It was not at all what I was expecting.

Then I read it a second time, because I felt like I had to, in order to give a decent review. Then I read it a third time because I wanted to.

Accidentally EngagedAccidentally Engaged is Mary Carter’s second adventure into the literary world and a fine effort it is, I suspect that this author will go far.

The unlikely and sometimes unwilling star in of this madcap romp is Clair Ivars, a Tarot card reader and psychic. Unfortunately for Clair her abilities seem to work best for other people’s problems rather than her own. She stumbles in blissful ignorance from one terrible disaster to the next even worse one.

Much of the action in the book occurs in a country mansion, the Heron Estates. Heron Estates is the home of an incredible cast of eccentric players, some are members of the Heron family, and some not. Elizabeth is the dotty grandmother who has not left her room in two years, Madeline is the mother ruling with an iron hand to keep the family together, there is handsome Jack the entrepreneurial son, Anderson the butler who seems to know too much, and the mysterious Mike Wrench, to name but a few.

Clair arrives at the Heron Estates to return an engagement ring. The bride to be, Rachael had decided to back out of the upcoming marriage because of a bad Tarot card reading, Clair being Clair, finds her role of unfortunate messenger of bad news transferred into reluctant stand in for the big engagement party.

All is not as it seems at Heron Estates, Jack is trying to promote a new Vodka, and the engagement party is really just an opportunity to entice financial backers, and an engagement party requires a bride to be.

This book is the literary version of those fabulous British farces from the 60’s and 70’s. I would love to see a producer pick this book up and turn it into a TV or Movie project. I know that the end result would be a wonderfully funny piece of work.

Mary Carter does a great job of tying up all the loose ends at the end of the book, all becomes clear, and although I will not spoil the end, I will say that I put the book down and just laughed.

One of the features that I really enjoyed was how Mary Carter has titled each chapter. It is a horoscope, and some of them are so funny that you are compelled to read more to see the significance.

If you are looking for a fun read, something that is light and easy, read this book!
